China Mobile and ZTE to launch AI-driven Green Telco Cloud
China Mobile and ZTE have launched an AI-driven Green Telco Cloud solution designed to optimise energy consumption in telecom networks while maintaining business continuity and a high-quality user experience. The solution monitors and analyses key parameters such as server load and network traffic in real-time, dynamically adjusting computing resources like CPU frequency and sleep modes by utilising advanced deep neural networks.
The energy-saving approach has been successfully validated on both X86 and ARM cloud platforms, with notable results in China Mobile’s Hunan and Anhui branches, demonstrating up to a 25% reduction in energy consumption. As a result, the solution lowers operational costs through improved resource utilisation and reduced equipment maintenance and contributes to global sustainability efforts by reducing carbon emissions. Therefore, that technology represents a significant step toward transforming the telecom industry into a more energy-efficient, green sector as 4G and 5G networks expand.
Furthermore, China Mobile and ZTE are committed to further optimising and expanding their AI-driven Green Telco Cloud solution to promote long-term sustainability in the telecom sector. Through their collaboration, both companies emphasise the importance of technological innovation in achieving environmental goals while simultaneously enhancing telecom operators’ corporate image and competitiveness. Additionally, they plan to drive the widespread adoption of energy-saving technologies, ensuring that the telecom industry contributes to a greener, low-carbon future.
Toyota and NTT to invest in AI for safer roads
Toyota and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) plan to invest 500 billion yen ($3.27 billion) by 2030 to create an AI-driven platform to reduce traffic accidents. Announced in a joint statement, the Japanese automaker and telecom giant aims to launch the platform by 2028, using extensive data to support driver-assistance technology. This project, initiated amid rising pressure on Japanese automakers to compete in the autonomous driving space, is expected to enhance safety features such as improved visibility in urban areas and smoother expressway merging.
The companies intend the platform to benefit not only their own operations but also government and industry partners, setting a long-term goal to minimise traffic accidents. Toyota and NTT, who first collaborated on 5G-connected car technology in 2017, see this project as part of a broader vision for zero-accident mobility, aiming for widespread adoption by 2030.
Toyota’s existing investments in autonomous technology include Woven by Toyota, a unit established in 2021 focused on AI mobility. Woven by Toyota is also developing the Arene automotive software platform and Woven City, a testing hub in Shizuoka. As part of these advancements, NTT and Toyota also plan to test self-driving technology as early as 2025.
Qualcomm brings new AI power to mobile chips
Qualcomm is integrating advanced AI technology from its laptop processors into mobile phone chips. The new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip introduces improved capabilities for generative AI, such as producing images and text.
The chip incorporates Qualcomm’s Oryon custom computing technology, originally developed by engineers who joined the company from Apple in 2021. This innovation aligns with the company’s broader effort to push AI features across various platforms.

Rebranded World Network boosts iris-scanning crypto push with new devices
Sam Altman’s cryptocurrency project, Worldcoin, has rebranded as World Network and is intensifying its efforts to scan irises worldwide using its “orb” devices. The project’s core feature, World ID, acts as a digital passport to verify individuals as real humans, helping to distinguish them from AI bots online. At an event in San Francisco, World Network revealed an updated version of its orb device, boasting 5G connectivity and enhanced privacy features, alongside new initiatives to improve access to the technology.
Despite signing up over 6.9 million people since its launch in July 2023, the project has faced criticism from privacy advocates regarding the collection and storage of personal data. Several countries, including Spain and Portugal, have temporarily banned the use of the orb devices, while Argentina and Britain are currently reviewing the project.
Urgent need for AI regulation highlighted at global conference
Governments around the world are scrambling to establish protections surrounding AI development and use, according to Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Speaking at a regulatory conference, she noted that only 15% of ITU’s 194 member states have begun developing policies in this area, leaving the vast majority without regulatory frameworks for AI.
Martin pointed out that many countries are eager to join discussions and learn from others that have advanced in AI regulation. She highlighted India‘s success in building a digital public infrastructure, particularly its unified payments interface and Aadhaar digital identity system, calling the country a global leader in this space. India’s fast 5G network has also positioned it as a key player in the digital economy.
Reflecting on past regulatory efforts to improve internet access, Martin explained that regulators today face a more complex landscape. AI’s integration with telecoms is a particular area of focus, as policymakers consider how to regulate in a world where digital infrastructure is increasingly interconnected.
Martin also stressed the growing challenges posed by cyberattacks, which are rising 80% year on year, and the risks posed by AI-driven deepfakes and disinformation. Strengthening network resilience and ensuring global participation in the digital economy remain critical concerns.
Fujitsu unveils AI tool to optimise 5G networks
Fujitsu has launched a new AI-powered service aimed at boosting 5G network performance by predicting traffic surges and adjusting base station operations. The application ensures users experience minimal disruptions during peak periods by activating additional base stations when needed.
The system measures network quality in real time, identifying early signs of increased demand to prevent performance drops. It promises improved energy efficiency and reduced operational costs through smarter base station management. Commercial availability is scheduled for next month, integrated into Fujitsu’s open RAN-compliant orchestration platform.
Trials revealed that the technology enhances the user experience for individual applications, supporting 19% more users per base station. The predictive system is particularly effective during events, allowing networks to anticipate pedestrian traffic and adapt without compromising service quality.
Fujitsu’s tool represents a breakthrough in network management by combining traffic forecasting with dynamic resource allocation. Operators can now ensure smoother connectivity and reduce power consumption while keeping pace with fluctuating demand.
