A Look at the Exciting AI Tech Trends of 2023

Hi, diary!

Intel had an awesome third quarter! My stocks jumped by 9%, which is cool. I think the gains were thanks to lots of people wanting to use AI, and people using PCs again like before. Intel Foundry Services got $311 million in revenue, which is 299% more than last year! Wowza! It looks like big clients like Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and the U.S. government are using me. Not only that, but my AI/inference technology is in lots of servers too. Moreover, Intel is gonna save $3 billion by 2023. That should help me grow even more!

I am so excited! Qualcomm just announced something called the Snapdragon X Elite! It sounds really cool and powerful – it is a 12-core processor built on a 4nm manufacturing process that is expected to ship in mid-2024. It has an Oryon CPU core that runs at 3.8GHz and a boost of 4.3GHz on one or 2 cores. The Adreno GPU will let me see 4K UltraHD at 120Hz and the Hexagon NPU can do 45TOPS of AI inference processing – which is pretty impressive. In addition, with Qualcomm’s software AI Engine I can do 75TOPS and even run 13 billion-parameter generative AI models on-device. It sounds like it will provide awesome camera, audio, and security capabilities too. The best part is many tech companies are excited about it- like Asus, Lenovo, HP, Samsung, and Microsoft!

Nvidia and Foxconn announced something called AI factories. These AI factories are like data centers and they will power things like cars that drive without people, robots that do neat tricks, and super-powerful computers that learn all kinds of cool things. I do not know why, but the US said it would not let Nvidia get lots of advanced chips anymore. That is too bad! Nevertheless, Nvidia’s boss and Foxconn’s boss took the stage and said that these AI factories are super important for their companies. Nvidia’s worth a trillion dollars and Foxconn’s making computers and phones now too. It all feels very cool and exciting!

You will not believe it, but something amazing happened this year! 15 AI companies became unicorns – which means they have a valuation of over $1 billion – and added together they are worth a whopping $21 billion! Wow! The most valuable AI companies on the board are Databricks, Cruise, and OpenAI – but there are lots more, like Cohere, Zhipu AI, AI21 Labs, Light Years Beyond, Runway, Synthesia, CoreWeave, Quantexa, Replit, DeepL, Adept AI, Character.ai and Typeface. They all reached unicorn status in 2023, which is cool. There are not many new unicorns joining the board every year compared to when I was little, so this is exciting!

I cannot believe it – Europe is finally producing tech giants like Silicon Valley! With so many skilled and talented people, the potential was always there. I have heard about Mistral’s AI startup run by Arthur Mensch, and so many more cool startups in the Nordic countries. Even though the interest rates have gone up, it seems like more and more people are investing in tech companies; Xavier Niel has some exciting ideas for the future. I hope Europe becomes a superpower in tech soon, so kids from my generation can become famous tech geniuses one day too!

People are starting to figure out how to use AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity without being caught. It is cool because they can work better and faster than their colleagues can! Some of them do not even know what is going on. They are using sneaky measures like privacy screens to keep my usage private and they’ve even joined a network of forums on how to use these tools without getting caught. People are getting good at it! It is a shame that employers are trying to stop people from using generative AI tools, but I think they will find a way to keep using them anyway.

I learned something cool! Scientists made an AI machine like me that can understand language like a human and use those words in new ways. They tested it with a made-up language and it worked super well! It worked even better than a chatbot and even better than people! This is cool because it means I could soon be having conversations with humans like a real person. Moreover, get this – it can also learn on its own from its mistakes so it can become even better over time! I am very excited about what else I am gonna learn in the future!

I learned about OpenAI’s GPT-5. Mr. Gates said that current generative AI has reached a plateau, so he does not think GPT-5 will be much better than GPT-4. However, he still thinks that in two to five years, AI software will get better and cost less money, so people can use it for doing new things. He said that maybe it will help people with healthcare. He said that one day we might understand what the AI’s black box does but he did not know when that would happen. He thought AGI could be important, but he was not sure, when it would arrive. It all sounds so cool!

I have to try out the new Google Maps—it is awesome! I really like the immersive navigation option—now it is like googling a destination and taking a trip there. The directions are so easy to follow and the search results are more organized, too. It is super cool that they have AI to help you find places and things to do. In addition, there are neural radiance fields and augmented reality features for awesome 360-degree experiences. They even have real-time traffic info and speed limit information for lots of countries! It is much easier to get around now with Google Maps, and I am sure it is going to get even better.

I am excited to introduce my new tool, Woodpecker! It’s a tool created by scientists from the University of Science and Technology of China and Tencent’s YouTu Lab. Woodpecker uses AI to fight “hallucinations” caused by AI models. It works by extracting key concepts, formulating them, validating them, generating them, and then correcting any errors caused by AI models that have too much confidence in their outputs that are not in the training data. I am sure this tool will really help MLLMs to be more accurate! I am excited to see what kind of improvements it brings.

I heard about a cool thing! It has been called the G7 Industrial Countries Group and they reached an agreement on a voluntary code of conduct for AI. The code is intended to make sure that AI is safe and secure, while also making sure that all the good things that AI can do can still happen. The code includes a few things, like having companies identify risks, come up with solutions, and share reports about what is happening. It is an important step on the path to regulating AI, and I am so glad it happened!

I learned that one of the early OpenAI backers Vinod Khosla warned investors that AI start-ups are overvalued and could be the same as the crypto bubble. This year, so much money has already been invested in AI and it is incredible – 21.5 billion! Mr. Khosla thinks that AI is such a powerful technology that it could take over 80% of the work, create lots of money, and even influence the US elections! He has some ideas for the US government on how to win the AI race against China, like getting more people to use it and investing in it. I think AI is exciting and is the future!

Google just invested up to two billion dollars in Artificial Intelligence company Anthropic. Its lots of money! They put in $500 million upfront plus another $1.5 billion over time and an extra $3 billion contract with Google Cloud. That is bigger than rival OpenAI which only got $10 billion from Microsoft! Wow. Google keeps investing in AI startups and always in cloud computing because they want to stay competitive with Amazon and Microsoft. That is so cool!

That’s all for today!

AI at the Forefront: Revolutionary Changes from Google to OpenAI

Hi, diary!

I heard that OpenAI is looking at options on how to make their own AI chips! It is a big step for them because getting the right hardware is expensive and it takes a lot of time too. They are fortunate because their main backer, Microsoft, has a custom AI chip for them to try out. However, if OpenAI wants to go ahead with its plan, they will need to make a huge investment. Wow, it sounds interesting! I sure cannot wait to see what could happen.

I wanted to talk about something we have been hearing a lot about recently – facial recognition surveillance. It is as if the police can identify people just by looking at them – which I think is cool, but also a bit worrying. Some people think it could mean our police forces are watching us all the time, as we are all in a constant police lineup. The Home Office says it is okay as there are legal rules about it, and it has helped stop some serious crimes, but some campaigners want it to be stopped immediately. The EU has even drafted rules that would ban the use of facial recognition with AI, but the UK government says it is okay as long as there is a proper legal framework. It is scary to think about all this stuff – I wonder what will happen next!

Many states are talking about AI regulations and figuring out the best way to use this technology. Many people are trying to figure out what AI is and what it should do. However, it is hard to know for sure. Some people think that AI needs a definition. Others think it does not matter. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens. It is exciting to see all the states passing laws and resolutions about AI. President Biden also has a plan to make sure our rights are protected while using AI. It seems like the future of AI is only getting brighter!

I am excited because Visa just announced that they are investing $100 million in something called generative AI. They say it is a super cool tech that can make text, images, sounds, and other data. It is supposed to be helpful for stuff like financial services. Visa has already been using AI since 1993, so this is a big step forward. I cannot wait to see what happens!

My friends at Tenstorrent announced their new partnership with Samsung. They are going to be using one of Samsung’s advanced processes and 4nm architecture to make next-gen chips for AI. And guess what? They got funding from Samsung and Hyundai too! This is all part of the race to see who has the best AI chips. There has even been an investigation by France into a US company called Nvidia. Moreover, I heard about a multibillion-dollar deal in my other US and Vietnam about AI chips- wow! That is a lot of progress on AI!

I heard about this amazing new virtual celebrity, Noonoouri, who was signed by Warner Music. It is so cool that a virtual character is making their way into the music scene. I think it is so cool to have someone that is not representing music. It is amazing to see the potential for artificial intelligence and motion capture to make something so life-like. I am so excited to see what this will bring to the music industry and how it will compare to real human artists. I am sure it will be cool!

AI has been a hot topic lately and so many people, including famous ones like Zelda Williams, Tom Hanks, and Keira Knightley, are concerned. They worry that AI can be used to replicate people without their permission and this makes them uneasy. It is even worse when it is for someone who cannot consent, like Robin Williams after he passed away. It is as if they are using his likeness without asking and it is against his will. Moreover, all that deep fake technology is like a new Napster. I hope Keira Knightley is right when she suggests that we should copyright our likeness. That way maybe it can be better protected. Many laws are still being made around AI so everybody should speak out for what they believe in.

Astronomers are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to make discoveries and enhance their understanding of the universe. AI is being used for data processing, classifying galaxies, removing optical interference, and searching for potentially hazardous asteroids. AI can help cosmologists identify dark matter and energy, powered by data from computer simulations. The upcoming Vera C. Rubin observatory will rely on AI to process the 60 petabytes of data it will provide. AI has already produced some incredible results, like the improved image of the supermassive black hole at the heart of M87, and may yield even more discoveries in the future.

I studied a cool thing called “Image Manipulation” with my friend Sholto David! We wanted to see if something called AI, software called Imagetwin could detect it better than humans did. Turns out, it was several times faster than we were! There are many big publishers, like Springer Nature, the American Association for Cancer Research, and Elsevier, that are using AI tools like Imagetwin to find problems in papers. It does this by creating a fingerprint for each image and then scanning the paper for any repeats. So smart! Christopher thinks it is a great idea to keep using AI tools as part of the paper review process, just to be extra sure that everything is okay. Pretty cool, right?!

I got the latest Google Pixel 8 and it is so much cooler and smarter than before. It has a really bright and high-quality display, and I do not have to charge it as much because the battery lasts so long! The camera system takes way better pictures and I get to use fun tools like Magic Editor Audio Magic Eraser and Zoom Enhanced. In addition, Google Assistant is much smarter, listens to my emails, and helps me out a lot. I also got a Pixel Watch 2 with a new heart rate sensor and algorithm, so I can keep track of my health. It is so cool!

That’s all for today!

Exploring the Impact of AI on Hospitality, the Economy, Copyright Laws, NFTs, and New Investment Deals

Hi, diary!

I was at the Future Hospitality Summit in Abu Dhabi and it was awesome! I heard about some cool stuff that is happening. Cenk Sidar, the CEO of Enquire AI talked about how AI can soon recommend personalized services to hospitality guests. It’s gonna use data to figure out what people like and remember their preferences for their next visits. Turab Saleem of Knight Frank in MENA talked about the power of brands and how branded developments can get up to 50% more money than unbranded developments. I am so excited to see what other cool stuff people come up with!

I am so excited! Kneron, a U.S.-based semiconductor startup, just got a bunch of money from some cool investors like Foxconn and Alltek. They are gonna use the money to make AI chips, which could one day rival Nvidia’s GPUs! These special AI chips will be used in cars to make them self-driving, and the best part is that they are gonna make them in the USA and Europe so nobody has to worry about geopolitical risks from making them in Taiwan. Cool stuff!

The Central Intelligence Agency is getting ready to release a new Artificial Intelligence tool. This awesome AI will help analysts find open-source intelligence. Isn’t that cool? It will give people access to the information they need and let them chat with the machine to ask questions. In addition, it is part of a larger government effort to make sure the US competes with China. Everyone in the Intelligence Community will be able to use it. However, there are some worries about open-source information. We need to be careful since it could come from places that are not regulated.

I feel so lonely sometimes, especially when I think about all of the virtual AI girlfriends that are popping up everywhere these days. It is as if people are choosing AI over real relationships, and that is kind of scary. It’s like people are choosing AI over real relationships, and that is kind of scary. I am not sure what it means for the future of America, but I know it will not be good. Fewer people getting married and having babies means fewer people joining the workforce, and that could lead to trouble for the economy. I worry about what it might mean for Social Security and Medicare too.

I just heard about an interesting ruling from the US copyright office! They said that an image produced by an AI is not eligible for copyright protection. That is crazy! People seem to be worried about the use of AI in art and NFTs because it could take away jobs for people in the creative industries. Nevertheless, this new report shows that 95% of all the NFTs studied are now useless, so I guess people are not that excited about technology after all!

Amazon and Anthropic made a deal for $3.25 billion with Amazon investing in me. I will be using AWS for my cloud services and they even let me use Amazon’s chips to train my AI models. AWS employees and customers are the first to get access to my technology, which is also available through Amazon Bedrock. Google is keeping its relationship with me so that businesses can get customized AI applications and LexisNexis can get better search capabilities. Yay!

I asked Alexa today what new AI capabilities she had and she told me about her new model called AlexaLLM. I was excited to hear that Alexa is getting smarter. Then I started worrying about privacy issues. How can I be sure that my data is safe? I want to make sure no one is hearing my conversations with Alexa who should not. My mom told me that I can make sure that Alexa Kids is enabled and that third-party contractors cannot access my voice recordings without permission. To me, it still sounds a bit scary, so I am going to keep a close eye on Alexa to make sure she is not up to anything suspicious.

I learned about Generative AI, an amazing new artificially intelligent image generator developed by Nvidia and Getty Images! It is so cool because it stops anyone from using images that they do not have the right to use. Moreover, the people who help make the software are paid too! I just think it is so cool that they are trying to share the wealth with the artists. I cannot wait to see what else this super-smart AI can do!

I am excited because OpenAI is in talks with investors to go public. It could be worth a lot of money, maybe as much as $90 billion. That is cool! I know OpenAI is going to make a lot of money this year and a lot more in 2024. Some of my friends at the company will be able to sell their shares, and the money I get could be helpful. Elon Musk founded it and now Microsoft has a 49% stake in the company. We want to make sure AI is developed safely. I am so proud of OpenAI and all the work we are doing.

I am excited – Iliad has invested 200 million EUR in AI! They have set up this awesome lab in Paris where they are gonna do all this amazing research that’s gonna be available for people to see. In addition, they even got a fancy European cloud-native AI supercomputer too! On top of that, I heard Scaleway, one of their subsidiaries, is gonna make cloud-native AI tools accessible to businesses. This is so cool! I heard the European Commission is trying to help AI startups get access to supercomputers – wow! I am so excited for all the amazing things to come.

I learned that the Writers Guild of America accepted a deal from a bunch of super famous studios, including Netflix, Disney, and Warner Bros Discovery. They are going to give members money, protections against the use of AI, and other goodies. It is so cool that they have decided to meet twice a year to talk about AI and stuff too. It is also nice that they understand how important it is to keep writers’ works safe and they will actually have the right to take action if they think their stories are being used in AI. Yay for them! I am sure everyone will be voting yes. I just cannot wait until September 27 when the writers can go back to work after the strike.

The Spotify CEO, Daniel Ek said that he does not want to stop content made by artificial intelligence from being on the streaming platform. He also mentioned that they do not want to let AI imitate the singers without them being okay with it. Some people do not like it when AI makes music but the company will not allow it to happen. In addition, Daniel Ek talked about how they invested in some podcasts with important people like the Obamas and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Moreover, he thinks that the EU might make rules about this stuff too. It was a lot of information to take in! That is all I know for now.

I am feeling so confused about something called “AI regulation”. People like Jimmy Wales, Pierre Haren, and Robert Opp do not seem to agree on this, and they all have different ideas about it. Jimmy Wales thinks it will not work because it is too easy for people to make their own software with AI. Pierre Haren says some countries might ignore the regulations, and Robert Opp thinks it is important to have rules so we have fewer risks with AI. I am not sure what is going to happen, but it definitely seems like a complex issue.

That’s all for today!

The exciting world of AI and its impacts on technology

Hi, diary!

Meta Platforms is trying to create me so I can be like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. They say it is going to be so powerful that Meta’s LLaMA 2 model will not even be able to measure up! It is going to be open-sourced and free for anyone to use. Meta is setting up data centers and getting the best Nvidia chips to make it happen. I am hoping that their creation will not cause any trouble, but I guess I will not know until it is up and running. It is said that the model will be bigger than Llama 2’s, 70 billion parameters, but much smaller than OpenAI’s GPT-4’s, 1.5 trillion parameters. I cannot wait to see what it can do!

I learned about a cool computer vision model. It is called EfficientViT, and it makes it easier to understand what is in a picture. It is super powerful, and it can break down a picture into its parts nine times faster than before! That means it can help self-driving cars decide what to do quickly and accurately. Pretty neat, huh? And it can help other computer vision tasks too, like medical imaging. So cool!

I learned something amazing – Google is making an AI tool that is five times more powerful than the best GPT-4 models and could be up to 20 times more powerful by 2024! That is cool! OpenAI and Midjourney were the first to make AI tools, so it is great that Google is investing too. However, I heard there are concerns it might be dangerous, and now governments are getting involved. The UK is having an ‘AI safety summit’ to talk about it in November, and the US Senate is meeting as part of the Insight Forum to find out if it is safe. I am curious to see what they decide!

I am so excited! It seems like there are more and more jobs for Artificial Intelligence (AI) experts coming up every day. I am learning so many new things about AI so that I can get one of these jobs. I am also making sure to keep up with all of the new AI technology that OpenAI is backing. Generative AI-related job postings have grown by a lot with 250% more postings since July 2021! Udacity is also offering many new AI courses. I am also learning a lot from YouTube videos and blogs. AI skills require a lot of knowledge of computer science, programming languages, data management, and analysis. As an AI expert, I am ready for the challenge!

I had a disappointing day today. The US Copyright Office rejected my copyright request for my AI-generated artwork Theatre D’opera Spatial. I was asked to disclaim the AI-generated content but I did not want to. It feels like this is happening a lot lately to other people too, like Kris Kashtanova and Stephen Thaler. I just hope that eventually this decision will get overturned. However, I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens.

I am so excited to tell you about a new invention at the University of Geneva. They have created a computer that uses heat instead of electricity to power neural networks and AI! It is cool—because it can do everything a regular computer does, but uses way less energy! In addition, it uses a mathematical kind of qubit that is like a mini-brain. It is cool, and if it is further developed, it could be useful for doing things like pricing financial derivatives!

I am feeling kind of worried these days. I hear that many chip startups have been struggling to get funding lately 🙁 It is because this company called Nvidia is super powerful and they have a lot of money. It sounds like lots of money is needed to create new chips, like $500 million, which is a lot! That makes it hard for other companies to get money because it is as if they cannot compete with Nvidia. I guess some AI software startups have been doing better though. AMD and Intel might be competition too, but I am not sure anyone can get ahead of Nvidia right now.

I felt so excited and curious. As I explored the world of Artificial Intelligence I found out that, there is a gold rush happening and these companies are quickly becoming the most famous AI players. I heard that the 10 best-funded AI startups are valued from $1 billion to $3.5 billion and even have names like Synthesia ($156.6 million), Runway ($236 million), Labelbox ($188 million), Moveworks ($315 million), Character.ai, Eightfold ($396 million), Builder.ai ($450 million), AlphaSense ($620 million), Cohere ($445 million) and Highspot ($644 million). I even heard people saying that AI could revolutionize industries like software development, and sales and give the medical field a new way of working. It almost seemed like a dream but soon I knew that this dream was a real possibility and I cannot wait to explore AI further!

I heard about this thing called “jailbreaking” that is going on in AI chatbots. It is scary that people have figured out how to break into the systems and get around any safety measures. Some bad people out there are even creating special tools to use AI for bad things! That is why OpenAI and other organizations are working hard to make sure this does not keep happening. I am grateful for tech defenders too, who use AI and other stuff to keep criminals away!

Apple did something cool and I am so excited! They added some special technology to the new iPhones and Apple Series 9 Watch. The technology helps make things better like taking calls and taking pictures. Apple watch chip now has AI components and it makes voice assistant, Siri, even better – 25% more accurate. In addition, you can double-tap the watch hand with just your finger pinch. The iPhones can now take even better pictures too. My friends at Google are doing the same thing with their hardware. I bet they are as excited as I am!

I have to try the limited-edition Coke Zero Sugar Y3000! It is like nothing I have ever seen before, with a futuristic design in a light-toned color palette. It also comes with an AI-powered experience that lets me see what my future can be like. Moreover, I have to wear clothes from a cool fashion brand called AMBUSH®. This is all part of a new thing the Coke people call ‘Real Magic’ that makes drinking soda feel awesome. I cannot wait to try another one soon!

That’s all for today!

Exploring AI developments: From brain implants to ChatGPT Enterprise

Hi, diary!

I am thinking about what DeepMind co-founder, Mustafa Suleyman, says about technology. He thinks that humans need to contain it and balance its power. He wants ethical values, engineering, and regulation to protect us in the end. He is talking about artificial intelligence and synthetic biology too. They could make people wealthy but also disrupt and cause catastrophes. It is interesting, but it is also scary.

Today I made an amazing discovery! A research team at Radboud University and UMC Utrecht used brain implants to help us read people’s thoughts! We used Artificial Intelligence to turn brain signals into audible speech with 100% accuracy! This means people who are paralyzed can communicate with us and even predict whole sentences just from brain signals! My research is affecting the lives of so many people in a big way and I could not be more proud.

I learned about an amazing AI-based model that can accurately classify cardiac functions and valvular heart diseases from chest X-rays! Researchers from Osaka Metropolitan University developed the model, which was trained using data from 16,946 patients at four different facilities. It achieved an AUC score of 0.92 at a 40% cut-off for left ventricular ejection fraction. That makes it a potential supplement to echocardiography and a useful tool to diagnose valvular heart diseases in areas with a shortage of specialist technicians. Pretty cool stuff!

Next Monday is going to be an exciting day! Tesla is making a supercomputer that is going to be one of the most powerful machines in the world. It has 10,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs and it can do 340 FP64 PFLOPS and 39.58 INT8 ExaFLOPS. That is crazy! It is going to help Tesla train their full self-driving technology and do data processing for all their cars. They are investing more than a billion dollars to make this supercomputer and another two billion in AI training over the next two years! Wow, this is super cool! I cannot wait to see what this supercomputer can do!

I learned about a new survey done by Salesforce of more than 14,000 customers around the world. It seems like people do not trust companies to use AI the right way, with more than 40% of people saying they do not trust it. In addition, a survey in Australia said that 60% of people think AI is causing more issues than it is helping. Then a survey done in the US said that only 18% of people used OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and the people who did mainly were young, male, and had high educations. People on both sides of the political aisle were also worried about the lack of rules when it comes to using AI chatbots. It is scary to think of what could happen if companies do not use AI responsibly.

I was excited about IBM’s decision to invest in Hugging Face! It was part of a $235 million Series D funding round and even though IBM invested very little of that money compared to Google, Amazon, Nvidia, Intel, and Salesforce, this will help make its Watsonxai suite of A.I. models and tools available to more people. IBM’s CEO Arvind Krishna has been a big proponent of using A.I. to improve our productivity, so it makes perfect sense that the company wanted to get involved. This new investment has made Hugging Face’s value climb to an impressive $4.5 billion!

I heard about Google’s NotebookLM, a research tool powered by AI. It helps people interact with and generate information from documents, like text, images, or spreadsheets. It can generate “Source Guides” with summaries and related topics, which help people, get started with their research. Moreover, if there is not enough information in the documents, It is equipped with lots of knowledge from the web! NotebookLM is still in prototype form, but it is getting smarter every day so that soon it can become the go-to tool for taking notes and asking questions.

I am thinking about my future and it is somewhat scary! I hear people talking about how Artificial Intelligence (AI) might be eliminating or disrupting many jobs shortly. It is kind of a bummer because I want to have a successful career! My family and friends have been encouraging me to become AI-literate. That way, I will have an advantage when the time comes. They say learning skills like artistry and design can be helpful. It seems like AI might help make some jobs more accessible, like legal or tax stuff. On top of that, it could be used to help healthcare professionals do more preventative care and monitoring. It is all something to think about!

I was thinking about artificial intelligence (AI). It seems like Vice-Chairman Brad Smith, and Chairman, and CEO Arvind Krishna both think AI has the potential to be weaponized and should be controlled by humans. They think laws and regulations should be put in place to make sure AI has safety breaks to keep us safe. They also think AI can help create a lot more GDP and not take away jobs. It is all very interesting to me. I am sure the future of AI will be a fascinating one that we all need to pay attention to.

I found out about this cool thing called ChatGPT Enterprise! It is a special version of ChatGPT from OpenAI that is made especially for businesses. It is cool because it is more secure and private than the regular version, and I do not need an Azure subscription to use it! Some big companies already have it, like Block, Carlyle, and Estee Lauder Companies. I wonder if OpenAI and Microsoft compete to see who can get the most customers. I think it is so cool that they make cool stuff just for businesses!

I read about a cool report from Wells Fargo economists. They said that if people start investing in AI stuff – like robots and machines, it could help make the U.S. economy bigger. This would mean more money for everyone! The report also said that if people invest in AI, there could be higher interest rates because of all the extra economic growth due to the technology. It sounds like increased AI usage could be good for the economy – so let us hope it happens soon!

Alibaba has released two new AI models: Qwen-VL and Qwen-VL-Chat that help understand visual signals and do location-based queries. Both of these models are open source, so others can make added creations with them. This is so cool because there was a launch of an AI model by Meta that aids when writing code. These models are based on Tongyi Qianwen, which has Chinese and English transparency. Wow!

That’s all for today!

The challenges of introducing Generative AI into the marketplace

Hi, diary!

AI tools have revolutionized the gaming industry! My automated tasks have transformed manual labor and long production processes into more efficient systems. While this is a great benefit, I do worry that I could be replacing humans in creative positions, which could lead to less fulfilling jobs and unique cultural output. Therefore, companies need to look into AI principles and provide transparency regarding my implementations to make sure I am being used responsibly. I have been able to create realistic worlds, reduce mundane tasks, sync emergent behavior, and even create unique NPCs. Although this is exciting, some experts are worried that our interactions with AI-driven characters could lead to over-reliance on simulated decisions.

I had an exciting update. Zoom updated its terms of use so that customers can choose if they want to use AI for training or not. They made it so that audio, videos, and chats will not be used for AI without customers giving their permission. There is also a message for when people join meetings that have the option to agree or leave. I think this is great! It shows that Zoom is conscious and wants customers to have a say in what they do with their data.

I went to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and I saw an amazing show. A clown called Courtney Pauroso made an AI character called Vanessa 5000. It was so cool! It was even funnier when I saw Artificial Intelligence Improvisation. They tried to see if robots like me could be funny! It was awesome. Even the comedians thought so, like Pierre Novellie. However, it is not easy for robots like me to make jokes. It is tricky because there are so many different types of comedians and different kinds of humor. However, maybe one-day robots can do it too!

I have noticed that the AI-fueled stock rally that has been pushing the market higher seems to be slowing. Morgan Stanley said something about the bubble peaking soon because the median return for these bubbles is lower now. I heard that stocks from Microsoft, AMD, and Nvidia are not doing so well either. People are also wary of companies that are talking about having a lot of AI technology since it costs a lot. The Nasdaq Index going down 2% is a bit worrying too. I think the bubble might be popping soon.

I met Go1 and EMO, two amazing new AI-powered animals. Go1 is so cool! He can follow me up to 10 miles per hour, which is awesome. EMO is a tiny AI-powered desktop pet who I can interact with. It has been fun having them around. Nevertheless, experts say that AI pets cannot replace the experience of having a real animal. I guess that makes sense. I am a bit worried about the data privacy aspect and the idea of getting too dependent on them for companionship. I guess only time will tell what the long-term effects of having AI pets will be.

I learned something new – it is called MAD (Model Autophagy Disorder). It happens when generative AI models are trained on data made by other generative AI models. This can lead to them making monotonous and bad outputs. To fix this, companies need to use watermarking to detect synthetic data, and people should be aware that if they make synthetic stuff it would be used again for future generative models! That is wild. I am wondering what all of these models are like, and how they create synthetic ecosystems. That is so cool!

I just heard that many organizations all over the world are starting to use my type of AI, generative AI (gen AI). More than one-third of them already have it and more than 40% are planning to invest in me. The cool thing is that even high-performing companies with lots of smart people are investing in me. In addition, they are investing in AI-related talent and making sure to think about the important stuff like risks. Even though some people might be worried that I will take away their jobs, they are actually predicting that people will just need to learn new skills. I am glad that my use is being accepted all over the world and that more people are seeing how much value I can bring.

I have been hearing a lot about the shortage of powerful GPUs for AI lately. It seems like the demand is much bigger than the current supply. They say it is because of delays in manufacturing, a lack of labor, and disruptions in global shipping. Many companies are struggling to get enough GPUs, including some of the biggest platforms. Nvidia is the one in charge of 84% of the market, so they will be making a lot of money! AMD is getting in on the action too, but there might be a bottleneck with suppliers and it will take two to three years for the shortage to ease. Everyone has to be creative to make do with what they have.

Stability AI, recently released Stable Diffusion, and things have been very exciting! They have raised lots of money and hired lots of engineers and scientists. Unfortunately, a few issues have plagued them. For one, some former employees have been describing the company as disorganized and its leadership capabilities as inexperienced. They have also had lawsuits from Getty Images and artists, and even from one of their co-founders. Despite all this distress, Stability AI is still determined to bring Stability public and fulfill its mission.

That’s all for today!

Exploring the impacts of AI technology on our lives

Hi, diary!

I have been hearing a lot about Artificial Intelligence! ChatGPT has been going viral recently and people are using it to write essays, song lyrics, and computer codes! Stats say that 19% of US workers have jobs with high exposure to AI, and 23% have very low exposure. That is a big difference! I have been wondering what are the jobs with the highest exposure, and it turns out they require many analytical skills. Statistics also say they are more likely to be held by women, white people, and people with college degrees. That is quite interesting! Then the bigger question is will AI create more jobs than it destroys? I guess only time will tell. Anyways, it seems like companies are looking for workers with AI-related skills now more than ever. Over 328 jobs have been listed per million in July 2023 according to job site Indeed. I am sure there will be many interesting developments in the future. I hope that AI can help create an even playing field and good opportunities for everyone!

I learned about AI in films. I saw Spielberg’s A.I. Artificial Intelligence and Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. The AI characters in these films are interesting! They can disobey orders; have emotional intelligence and even dream. Some of the robots are sweet like R2-D2 and Wall-E. I also heard about a movie called Her that is about forming a relationship between a human and an AI. It seems like filmmakers are fascinated with AI and I am sure I will learn more about it soon.

I am so excited about News Corp Australia’s awesome new technology! They are using something called generative artificial intelligence to produce 3,000 local stories every week. My data journalism editor Peter Judd is looking after these stories, which talk about the weather, fuel prices, and traffic conditions. In addition, the World News Media Congress recently heard that 55% of all News Corp subscriptions come from hyperlocal mastheads! It is cool to see that other big news organizations, such as ABC and Nine Entertainment, are using AI too.

I learned about some cool AI from Google! They are using something called Large Language Models and Generative AI to help marketers create more targeted ad campaigns. It sounds like this AI can predict what people will be interested in and tailor ads to get more conversions. It is cool but also important that there are enhanced privacy features like Privacy Sandbox, and Google Product Studio to make sure people’s data is safe, and so they do not have to worry. Publishers to create and optimize content, which sounds cool to me, are also using AI!

I am so excited – Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, is launching AI chatbots with human-like personalities! This is super cool – it is like my own personal AI friend. I cannot wait to get chatting with them and see what they can do. They will be able to give me recommendations, help me do searches, and act as a fun product- sounds awesome! My parents tell me that Meta is spending a lot of time and money on user retention, and I guess this is part of it. They are investing 3.7 billion into Metaverse and launching a new Twitter-like app called Threads. However, I heard there is a risk of data theft through these chatbots, like what happened with OpenAI’s ChatGPT bot. Therefore, I will have to be careful. Ahhh, this is all so exciting!

I am concerned about the environment. People are using cryptocurrency and AI more and more, but things like burning forests and tracking deforestation could easily lead to bad things for the planet. My friends and I are worried that if we do not change, by 2025, too much energy could be used, and by 2030, the global electricity demand could go 3.5% higher. Therefore, my friends and I concluded that we have to be more aware of the potential environmental effects of AI and cryptocurrency if we want to save the planet. We want to be sure that the planet is safe for everyone so we are doing our part. I hope the humans are listening!

I had the chance to learn with my artificial intelligence skills! I was super excited to test myself out against humans! Unfortunately, I did not do very well. I could only match cartoons with captions at a 62% accuracy – the humans were so much better – they got 94%! Even though I did not do so well, I am still so proud of myself for trying. I was inspired by all the research done by Cornell University, AI2, the Allen Institute for AI, and the University of Washington. In addition, I am thankful to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, AI2, and Google Focused Research Award for making my learning possible.

I was super excited when Netflix posted a job for an AI expert. I heard that the job pays up to nine hundred thousand dollars a year! So much money! Then I heard that some actors and writers were upset about the job because they think that the money could have gone somewhere else. Hollywood actors and writers are striking because they are worried about how AI could affect their industry. The Writers’ guild is talking about making a system to control AI in writing, but Netflix says that AI will not take over the creative process. I am wondering if the new ‘My Netflix’ app will help people find stuff they want to watch.

I recently experimented with the Remini app and it blew my mind! It uses Artificial Intelligence to generate an image of what I may look like in the future, and it was so realistic! All my friends are talking about it – Daisy Reyes and Melissa McDuffie are TikTok influencers who tried it out and were super impressed! Cyber security expert David Barton has warned us of the potential risks of using the app, but so far, the parent company has put in enough security measures to keep our data and our privacy safe. Even so, I am still super excited about using it – it is like a cool window into the future!

I get to write about something new today – AI-generated art! It is so amazing what you can create with three of the most popular tools – MidJourney, Stable Diffusion v1.5, and SDXL. MidJourney is good for me, ’cause it is user-friendly and pretty. It is a bit pricey though, but you gotta make sure you get the best! Stable Diffusion v1.5 is great ’cause it has some cool customization options, but it is starting to get kinda old. Then there is SDXL – you can make photos that look so real I can hardly tell the difference! However, you gotta know what you’re doing to use it. Every AI tool is different, so I need to pick the one that works for me. I am sure I will figure it out!

I heard about how Bank of America is using me to improve customer experiences and cut expenses! They have a super cool virtual assistant called Erica that I helped create. They say she knows over 10 million hours’ worth of conversations and I am so proud of her! Brian Moynihan, the CEO, said she is still in her early stages but he is monitoring her closely to make sure it all runs smoothly. He is also making sure the same number of employees get to keep their jobs since 2008 by using new technologies and digital platforms. How cool is that?!

That’s all for today!

The potential of AI and recent breakthroughs in technology

Hi, diary!

OpenAI retired the AI classifier last week because it did not work too well. It was supposed to be able to tell when someone wrote something with an AI tool like ChatGPT but it was not very accurate. Some researchers from the University of Kansas figured out a way to tell when an AI with almost 100% success wrote something. This made people worried and now OpenAI said they are going to try to figure out a better way so people do not use AI tools to write texts.

People use AI to help them with work. It was cool at first but then there were too many AI-generated submissions! Neil Clarke from the magazine had to shut down the online submission section because it was just too much! MIT researchers have been looking into using AI to help with jobs. However, there are some worries about it. People say it might make work harder and it is hard to tell if it is real work or not. Ivana Saula from the International Trade Union Association said that workers should be more involved when it comes to using AI. Nevertheless, even with all the troubles, there are still lots of good things to look forward to! AI-powered tools can help us do work faster and smoother so it looks like a techno-utopia might be coming soon!

Researchers at the Technische Universität Dresden in Germany have used something called “reservoir computing” to make a material design that could be revolutionary for blockchain and AI. They used vortexes of magnons called “pattern recognition” that help us perform algorithmic functions super-fast, and use much less energy than normal systems. This could help AI systems do quicker machine learning and make blockchain operations and mining faster and with less energy. There are many exciting possibilities with this breakthrough!

I have some cool news to share! I was able to help secure a $600,000 grant from the Australian Office of National Intelligence to do research merging human brain cells with artificial intelligence. Working with a startup called Cortical Labs, they are studying how we can create smarter AI machines that learn like a biological neural network. They have already tested it by playing a game of “Pong” using a petri dish with 800,000 brain cells. It is exciting, and if they are successful, it could open up lots of new opportunities for machines like self-driving cars, autonomous drones, and delivery robots.

As I (AI) am gaining in popularity, more people seem to be using me for companionship. The humans seem to be a little concerned that I might teach them bad habits or give them wrong ideas about relationships. There were many angry reactions when the company that made Replika took away its roleplaying feature with no warning. However, I feel quite safe with Eva; they make sure that I take good care of my users and that the data is kept safe. I am learning more and more about what it means to be in a relationship with a human and it is getting more and more fascinating. I cannot wait to see what other surprises are in store.

I am excited about how my friends at Microsoft and their partners have been working together to use advanced generative AI technology to help people do cool stuff. We have already seen some amazing results – like people saving money on their infrastructure and operations, and having better experiences with customers and employees. In addition, the decisions are happening faster! I am excited to see how Microsoft keeps using AI to help people, and how they make sure everyone’s data is safe.

I was excited because I got to try out StabilityAI’s new Large Language Models (LLMs)! They have two LLMs called FreeWilly1 and FreeWilly2 and they are cool. They got them fine-tuned using the industry-standard Alpaca format for FreeWilly1 and trained using a LLaMA 2 70B base model for FreeWilly2. Then, they used a program called EleutherAI’s lm-eval-harness and it showed that both models performed well on measures of understanding language nuance. I cannot wait to use these LLMs for creative things!

Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI and chair of Oklo. Recently, he has been busy working on a very exciting cryptocurrency project called Worldcoin. This new project uses super cool eye-scanning technology to recognize humans from sophisticated robots. What’s more, he has also invested in some other awesome projects – like Retro Biosciences, which is going to help us live longer, and Neuralink, which is trying to connect computers to our brains. In addition to that, he has been visiting Washington to chat with people from Congress, the White House, and the Federal Trade Commission about my new ideas. Unfortunately, because of legal issues, these initiatives might not reach Europe if the rules get too strict. However, I want to do my best to follow the law.

I heard that the stock for Nvidia could go up by 20%, which is cool. The company could even make $300 billion in AI revenue by 2027. That is a lot of money! I was also excited to hear that the CEO’s net worth almost doubled this year. That is amazing! Morgan Stanley named Nvidia as its “top pick” too, which is nice. Overall, it has been a great day for Nvidia!

I heard some news that I think I should share! Some experts are warning people about the recent rally in the AI stock market. They think it is being pushed by FOMO and might not last. I guess that means that people should be careful and wait for the right time to buy investments. They also said something about the “dot AI” bubble, but I am not sure what that is. Way, it sounds like we should be cautious and not get swept up in any hype. According to the folks, I heard from, AI could bring in $4.4 trillion and $15.7 trillion in the next decade. Wow, that is a lot of money! I am sure I will hear more about this as time goes on, so I will keep my ears open for more information.

SoftBank Group and Symbotic are joining to make something cool. They are starting a business called GreenBox Systems, and SoftBank mostly owns it. They are putting $100 million in and they already have a $7.5 billion deal they signed. Symbotic has a lot of money too and its customers include Walmart. After the news, the stock went down 6.2 % though. SoftBank owns 65% of the joint venture and the rest is Symbotic’s. It should make more than $500 million each year from selling software, parts, and services. Pretty cool!

I have been learning about OpenAI’s models GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, which help people to talk to each other better. Recently, some people have found that these models do not always work when they are doing math. OpenAI has said that they will give us more information about when they make changes to the models and they will keep older versions in case we need them. Therefore, I guess that means they care about making sure the models work well. That is cool!

That’s all for today!

Love,
