From 29 July to 2 August 2, Buenos Aires was the stage of several meetings on Internet governance.
On 29 July 29, a forum for youth discussions on the evolutions of Internet governance was organised by the Youth Latin America and the Caribbean for the Internet Governance Forum (LACIGF) and the Youth Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Argentina. This meeting provided an opportunity for young people from Argentina and, more broadly, from Latin America to participate in an instance of peer-to-peer learning and training on Internet governance, and to create a fundamental space to raise and discuss mutual concerns.
On 30 July, the Argentina IGF 2018 took place at the University of San Andrés. The event hosted more than 200 participants from all over the country who discussed topics such as freedom of expression, intermediary liability, Internet access, cybersecurity and critical infrastructures, cybercrime, artificial intelligence and other fundamental aspects of Internet governance.
Lastly, the Preparatory Meeting for LACIGF was held from July 31 to August 2. More than 300 people from different parts of Latin America and the Caribbean attended this forum, discussing and identifying regional priorities to expand the participation and contribution of Latin America and the Caribbean to the IGF. The book Gobernanza y Regulaciones de Internet en América Latina (Internet Governance and Regulations in Latin America) was launched at the event. This volume is the first work collecting the opinions of academics, regulators, prosecutors, business representatives and civil society advocates in the region, including 29 chapters dedicated to network infrastructure, connectivity models, privacy and cybersecurity, and emerging issues. The book celebrates the tenth anniversary of the South School on Internet Governance.
