The event is part of a series of regular briefings that the Geneva Internet Platform (GIP) is delivering for diplomats at permanent missions and delegations in Geneva following digital policy issues. It is an invitation-only event.
As AI continues to feature prominently across tech, business, and policy agendas, AI governance debates are unfolding globally: across multiple UN entities, in regional organisations, in national capitals, and in technical standard-setting bodies. Geneva, as a hub for multilateral cooperation and digital governance, is home to a wide range of institutions engaging with AI from different angles.
In this second part of our diplomatic briefing on AI governance in Geneva, we will continue to explore how AI governance conversations are unfolding across Geneva-based international organisations around key policy issues. Our discussions will focus on:
- Issue-specific perspectives on AI governance: We will look at how AI-related discussions are advancing in international organisations dealing with technical standards, health, intellectual property, work, human rights and development, commerce, and trade, among other issues. The aim is to provide insights into how such organisations are approaching AI governance within their mandates, and what this reveals about governing AI across diverse institutional settings and policy fields.
- Connecting the dots: We will try to link these Geneva-based conversations with one another, as well as with related processes and discussions taking place elsewhere. In doing so, we will also reflect on possible synergies and coordination challenges in the evolving global AI governance architecture.
- Providing updates on upcoming processes, such as the Global Dialogue on AI Governance.
