Albania, eagerly anticipating EU membership for over ten years, aims to use ChatGPT to hasten the accession process. The government will use ChatGPT to translate thousands of pages of EU legal measures and provisions into Albanian language and then integrate them into existing legal structures, following an agreement with the CEO of OpenAI, Mira Murati. Prime Minister Edi Rama suggested employing ChatGPT to interpret and evaluate EU legal measures and identify necessary local legislative adjustments for compliance. This inventive method aims to bypass expensive translation and legal expert costs while expediting Albania’s EU readiness.
The collaboration between Rama and Murati, CTO of OpenAI, resulted in a joint initiative between OpenAI and the National Agency for Information Society. The success of this strategy was presented at an EU summit. Furthermore, Albania intends to integrate AI throughout its public administration to combat corruption and improve services.
Why does this matter?
Albania’s AI-driven approach might not only expedite its EU membership but also exemplify how technology can reshape bureaucratic norms and potentially influence larger geopolitical dynamics. This approach showcases how cutting-edge technology can be harnessed to address complex governmental challenges, setting a precedent for other nations to modernize their processes.
