The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Policy (CAIDP) has filed a complaint with the US Federal Trade Commission, seeking to prevent OpenAI from releasing new commercial versions of its GPT-4 and suspension of large language models sales, including GPT-4 program due to concerns that it poses risks to privacy and public safety. The group claims that GPT-4 is ‘biased, deceptive,’ and fails to comply with the FTC’s transparency, fairness, and accountability standards. In a formal complaint, the CAIDP alleges that OpenAI has violated Section 5 of the FTC Act, FTC Guidance for AI Products, and Rules for Governance of AI.

The group urges the FTC to investigate OpenAI, prevent further commercial releases of GPT-4, and ensure necessary guardrails to protect consumers, businesses, and the commercial marketplace.

The complaint comes amid concerns about the potential dangers of AI, which have been raised in an open letter signed by Elon Musk and hundreds of experts calling for a six-month pause in artificial intelligence research due to potential risks to humanity. While in Italy, the Italian Data Protection Authority (SA) has imposed an immediate temporary limitation on OpenAI’s processing of Italian users’ data.
