In view of the 2020 World Environment Day, the GSMA released the ‘Digital Dividends in Natural Resource Management‘ report that explores the role of digital technology such as mobile devices, the Internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and satellite technology in the context of sustainable use and management of earth’s natural resources. The report concludes that emerging technologies are essential given that they allow for evidence-based decision-making on the basis of gathered and analysed data. In addition, digital tools encourage persons to participate in natural resource management, given that these same tools facilitate dialogue and leverage local knowledge, among other things.
