OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot is once again available in Italy after the company met the demands of the Italian data protection authority. The regulator had temporarily blocked the AI software in response to concerns over privacy and a possible data breach. OpenAI has fulfilled a range of conditions, including adding information about how data is collected and used, providing the EU users with a new form to object to their data being used for training and adding a tool to verify users’ ages. The Italian watchdog welcomed the measures taken by OpenAI but still urged the company to comply with demands for an age-verification system and a publicity campaign to inform Italians about their right to opt out of data processing.
